Oray strives to be a better person but struggles with his shady past. His dream of being a good Muslim and the perfect husband is suddenly shattered while arguing with his wife. Oray goes to Cologne, where he tries to rebuild his life in a new Muslim community. But he is constantly torn between his faith, everyday reality and identity.
MEHMET AKIF BÜYÜKATALAY was born in Bad Hersfeld in 1987. He studied Film and Literature at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and was a scholar of the German National Scholarship Foundation. His films include: HOW I LEARNED TO HATE SKIING (short, 2008), ÖMER, THE LORD (short, 2012), BEFORE THE GATES OF IJTIHAD (short, 2013), SCENES OF A YOUTH (short, 2014), THE BUTCHER (short, 2015), and his feature debut ORAY (2019).
